From the 80th minute to the final whistle there are, on average, 1.81 corners per match. It is the 10-minute band with the most corners in the match: in the others, the average is 1.01. On its own, the final stretch accounts for 18% of the corners in a match.
The numbers come from the Sniper Cantos database, with 6,005 matches, updated on 10/08/2026. This page is rebuilt every day.
Corners throughout the match
The 2nd half has 5.24 corners per match, against 4.66 in the 1st. In the chart, the two highest bands are the ones that include stoppage time: 40-50, with the end of the 1st half, and 80-90, well above all the others.
Why there are more corners at the end
- Stoppage time. The band from 80 to 90 includes added time, so in practice it is longer than the others.
- The team behind on the score pushes forward. The side that needs the result crosses more, shoots more from distance and forces play down the wings, and that is where corners come from.
- The team ahead drops back. With the whole team near the box, the ball cleared in a hurry goes out over the byline.
- Fatigue. With tired legs, the marking arrives late and deflected balls increase.

What this changes in the analysis
The full-match average hides when the corners come. Two matches with the same average can have very different curves: one with pressure early on, another that only heats up at the end. That is why it is worth looking at the minute bands of each team and of the league, not just the total. Live, compare what has already happened with what is expected for the time left, as in the article on live corners.
Statistics show a trend, not a certainty. Corners vary a lot from one match to the next.
